Meyer Landsman is a man almost out of options. He is divorced, alcoholic, and living in the Jewish Sitka District, which will soon revert to U.S. control. When he begins to investigate the murder of a chess-playing junkie, all the elements of his shambolic life begin to come together and take over.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the alternate world Chabon created in this book, from the use of language, to the idea of Polar Bear Jews. I really liked Bina and Berko, and even Meyer - although I often wanted him to just get it together.
